The IambicCardboard is an ultra-low cost Morse code learning aid device.
This kite includes:
- 1 x Arduino 32U4 based microcontroller with micro-USB connector
- 1 x Audio buzzer (speaker)
- 2 x pieces of copper tape
- 2 x pieces of cardboard (smashed together to form Morse code "paddles")
Powered by USB (or standalone USB power bank), the Iambic Cardboard will allow the student to key continuous perfectly spaced dits and dahs and hear them through the speaker.
Additionally as a USB keyboard device, Morse code input will result in text output to the attached USB host (PC or Mac), just like a normal keyboard.
The name of this device was derived from "google cardboard" which was a kit intended for augmented reality. Like google cardboard, my kit is also fabricated using laser cut cardboard. I have always been interested in using scrap or renewable resources for my products.
The word "iambic" is used to describe the mode of operation of the paddles. Iambic paddles are automatic in the sense that if you hold a paddle down, it will automatically transmit a dit or dah repeatedly until you stop holding the padding down.
